Damn dude im not sure if AMD makes any good mobos with NVIDIA SLI, or even at all lol. But to check what type of socket you have on that AMD x2 4200, download cpu-z and find out.

Its the same program in that pic i displayed (the first one).

Since your spending $150 you can get a high end AMD mobo. Ether go for a AMD 790GX with a south bridge of SB750, or a AMD 790FX with a SB750 southbridge. There isnt a big difference between these mobos except the 790FX supports crossfire fully at X16 support, whereas the 790GX supports it at only 8X. Heres an amazing 790GX mobo. It supports your current AMD X2 4200 (if its AM2), and it supports DDR2 800 RAM (if you have that). Oh and btw the SB750 southbrige is used for overclocking your CPU.  So if you ever want to drop a Phenom II (AM3) CPU then you should be good to go. (Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H) (Gigabyte GA-MA790GP-UD4H mobo site to check compatibility)

I sold my Amd x2 7750 to some dumb kid for $180. With that money that i got and a little extra that i used from my wallet, i went on and bought a e8400+mobo combo. It was all for $200, some Frys Electronics deal.
Going to this was a big step up from what i always used which was a Amd single core and a 9800gt/8800gt, but on low settings i still got allot of fps with that high end vid card on my cheap Amd cpu. I think he'll be fine HB, even with the bottleneck. He should get the Radeon 4890 for the vid card, its sweeet.   8)

So what games do you guys play mainly fast paced fps wise... i've heard Quake live was good but i can't register to get a beta key. FEAR1 was amazing but FEAR2 sucks so that obviously cant be a option. It seems as if i've built this new computer for nothing lol. Im tired of clocking in hours on CoD4.

Nice! thnx again HB

I got really lucky then lol, my bro got the same setup as me and he cant even crack 3.0GHz.

Well i did it, i passed orthos for 24 hours! Everest ultimate detected the cpu idled at 34-35 and on load it was 46-47. I didnt have to change the vcore and i didn't have to mess with the DRM:FSB ratio ether. thnx for the advice HB! :D

Oh and btw HB would this overclock make my cpu's life expectancy allot shorter or will it not. I didn't change the vcore, drm:fsb ratio, and it doesnt get hot. And doesn't the vcore and heat effect on how long a cpu last. Im pretty sure this baby can go 24/7 full load on orthos, i stopped orthos on 24 because i didnt want to stress it any longer. What do you think HB? ... I'm just hoping it has the same stamina as the stock speed, 2.7 for running the computer 24/7 because i never turn mine off lol.

i hope so man lol.

i left for school and it was already at 10 hours. by 10:30 at night it should hit hoping!

btw im posting from school.

Ok orthos test is running, ok what happens if it fails do i turn off my computer right away or will it crash by itself. I'd hate to worry lol. And the temperature at full load is 46 degrees celius. And also my DRAM:FSB Ratio did not change at all when i changed the multiplier to 15.

I built it last week
AMD Athlon 64 X2 7750 Black Edition ~3.0Ghz
2GB Patriot DDR2 800
Western Digital 320GB
Diamond ATI Radeon HD 4890
Viewsonic VX1962wm SERIES 19"
Creative SB X-Fi XtremeGamer
SteelSeries 5H V2
Saitek Eclipse
IntelliMouse Explorer 3.0
Belkin Mousepad (worn out)
Windows XP Professional SP3

Hmm so 2.7 to 3.0 isnt really i should worry about 2 much huh.

My Bad guys...

All this time I was thinking intel cpu :P

I'll stay out of this

My Bad!

fail lol

I guess thats pretty easy, HB. I'm just nervous its my first time attempting to overclock. thnx for the info its really helpful.

And btw HB do you run a AMD oc'd cpu for gaming, it seems like you know allot about AMD cpu's. if not then what cpu do you use for gaming then?

Im running 2GB(2x1gb) and its at DDR2 800 i dont know what the timings are though does that matter? And im pretty sure my system idles around 30 but on load i don't know, im going to have to check that. And btw is overclocking on a stock HSF good.. Man this is complicating

And yes i know i'm not going to touch anything right now, i will most likely fry it like fried chicken.

Hi, my name is Kalchi and i recently built a computer, well basically its a new computer but fished some old parts out of my aging comp. I would like to know on how i can overclock my processor from stock 2.7GHz to 3.0GHz. I know it can do it on air! And since its a black edition all you have to do is raise the multiplier but i don't even know where thats at. So yeah i just want allot of advice because im scared that i will fry my damn cpu. Thats the only thing holding me back. I will gladly take some advice k thnx!

Oh and btw i want to overclock it to 3.0GHz because i want to get more performance out of my 4890.
